Brett Snyder, of CrankyFlier fame, asked this question at the recent APEX Technical Committee meeting in Burbank, California. For the record, embedded systems will absolutely be here for the next five years. To say otherwise is usually just self-serving. Let me give a couple of reasons why they aren’t going away in the short term.
I’m sure that you have read all kinds of articles and posts about the trends and buzz that came out of the Aircraft Interiors Expo several weeks ago. Though, I want to give you the perspective of a vendor, what we experienced as common questions from airlines, and address some of the hot topics.
I was fortunate enough to be one of the judges for the Best Single Achievement in IFE AVION Award which was awarded at last week’s WAEA/APEX event. We had to evaluate five strong candidates who each deserve praise. However, Etihad Airways emerged as the victor by near unanimous vote. I was disappointed, though, that no explanation was given at the awards ceremony as to why they won.
