Aviation research firm IHS provides perspective on 2012

As the holiday season gets fully into gear and 2012 draws to a close, what can we say about 2012 in in-flight entertainment, and what does the future hold for it? It’s certainly been an active year, both for in-flight entertainment and connectivity, with an estimated 1,200 new aircraft being outfitted with either cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity – or, in some cases, both.

Will embedded IFE systems still be here in 5 years?

Brett Snyder, of CrankyFlier fame, asked this question at the recent APEX Technical Committee meeting in Burbank, California. For the record, embedded systems will absolutely be here for the next five years. To say otherwise is usually just self-serving. Let me give a couple of reasons why they aren’t going away in the short term.
